The Herbal Deluxe rice water is created by infusing the following ingredients in pure vegetable glycerin and water: Black "Forbidden" Rice (infused and fermented) Peppermint Leaf Indian Hemp Rosemary Horsetail Burdock Root Stinging Nettle Amla Marshmallow Root Thyme Lemon Verbena Black Tea Leaves Coffee Bean Sage Tumeric Cayenne Pepper Mustard Seed Parsley Birch Bark Black Pepper Garlic Lavender Flower Basil Leaf *NOTE: May not be suitable for those with protein sensitive hair. Avoid use if allergic to coconut. Directions: Shake well; spray onto clean, freshly washed hair. Lightly massage into scalp, then cover hair with a cap for 10 minutes. Next, rinse (no shampoo, just water) rice water completely off of hair/scalp with cool water and style as desired. If you want to leave it in occasionally, you can, but you don't *need* to as after about 10 minutes your hair will have absorbed as much as it needs. Recommended frequency of use: one time per week (I know it's tempting to overuse, but you honestly won't need to). Why can't I use this every day?: Everyday usage is not recommended because rice water does impart some protein to the hair and while protein can help to fortify the hair, overloading the hair with protein can cause hair to become brittle. It is important to keep a good moisture/protein balance in the hair at all times so hair strands don't become either overly brittle or weak/mushy. Why a preservative? A preservative is an absolute MUST in a formula with herbs and water, as herbs are notorious for growing mold in water without a preservative and it would only hold up for about 3 days maximum refrigerated without a preservative. The preservative allows the product to be shelf stable so that you may safely use your product. Specs: The substance is a translucent, slightly milky pink to purple color (it may darken slightly over time). Scent: The smell is slightly sour and characteristic of fermented rice, but may also contain a touch of sweetness and be mildly herbal, depending on the formula you choose.
